Robert Capa is considered one of the premiere war photographers of the 20th century. Born Andrei Friedman, he emigrated to Paris in 1933, and then went to Spain to cover the Spanish Civil War. His image "Death of Spanish Loyalist," which shows a soldier falling at the moment of being struck by a bullet, made his reputation. Working freelance and on assignment, he traveled to China, Italy, Germany, France, and Israel, where he took numerous photographs of World War II combat for Life magazine.
