Dutch landscapist and marine painter
Brief biography, in most instances from the Union List of Artist Names® Online:
Visited Scandinavia in the 1640s. His paintings of the scenery there helped to popularize such images in the Netherlands. He particularly liked painting mountain torrents. Ruisdael's paintings of waterfalls were influenced by him.
