William Faithorne, the elder
English engraver and author
Brief biography, in most instances from the Union List of Artist Names® Online:
Important 17th-century English engraver, especially noted for his portrait heads. He made engravings of other artists' paintings as well as from his own drawings. He published "The Art of Graving and Etching" in 1662 and fought as a Royalist in the Civil War. He probably taught Thomas Hill, John Fillian, and his son William the Younger.
