Russian photographer and photojournalist

Brief biography, in most instances from the Union List of Artist Names® Online:
Baltermants studied mathematics at Moscow State University, 1928–1933, and taught himself photography. He worked as a mathematician in Moscow from 1934 to 1938 and as a photographer for newspapers from 1936, later becoming a professional photojournalist in 1940. Baltermants was a war correspondent for the daily paper “Izvestiya” and the Army newspaper “Na Razgrom vraga” from 1941 to 1945. He was the Chief Reporter for the illustrated weekly “Ogonjok” (“Flame”) from 1945.
