Signed in pencil on tab, lower left: butterfly monogram and “imp”; signed in pencil on verso, lower right: “selected proof” and butterfly monogram; inscribed in pencil on verso: “This is the proof that Whistler selected and exhibited in London when the Venice set was first shown. It comes from the collection of Mr. Rawlinson to whom Whistler sold it. F.K.” [Frederick Keppel]
