Anton Wierix II
Flemish printmaker
Dutch (Flemish),
(1555-1559–1604)
Anton was probably taught by his brother Johan. His work includes many religious scenes, some designed by himself, others after works by such artists as Marten de Vos and Crispin van den Broeck. After Anton's early death, Jerome took over his copperplates and published several of Anton's engravings under his own name. The work and life dates of his son, also named Anton Wierix, has often been confused with that of the father in most sources.
