Edition: One impression each was made of states one through seven; 42 impressions were made of the eighth (published) state, numbered I–XLII. The second state is a duplicate impression of the first state, with the detailed figure of Davison drawn in (in three-quarter length) in pencil.
Marks: Signed (all impressions) in ink, lower right: “James McBey”; signed in plate (published state only), lower left: “McBey/New York/December 1929.” All impressions numbered in ink, lower left: “Trial I,” “Trial II,” etc.; state viii impression numbered "XXIX"
