Marks: Inscribed in unidentified hand on mount: “Drawing to illustrate the ‘grasset’ or lamp used by the Norman peasantry. This sketch was made to explain a similar one by Millet which was drawn by him upon a proof of his woodcut, the Peasant Digging. Lebrun B. 30 HM has this proof.”
