Medium and Support: Woodcut, probably pulled from electrotype of original block on laid paper
Print impression quality: Original block abraded, worn
Edition: Modern restrike impression from the “Bois Protat,” the oldest known printing block in the West; the block originally was intended to print on large pieces of fabric (paper of that size was not manufactured in the 14th century) for Burgundian dress
Marks: Inscribed with caption: “Epreuve du Plus Ancien Bois Gravé Connu (aux environs de 1370) de la collection Jules Protat, Macon.”
