- manipulated photographs - Use for photographs that have been altered through interference in the optical or chemical procedures, or physically altered, as for example, sewn, marked on, or torn. [April 1992 descriptor moved.]
- montages - Works produced by the technique of montage. If photographs dominate the composition, use "photomontages."
- photomontages - Use for combinations of photographic images, or photographic with other images, such as architectural drawings, usually arranged into a somewhat unified image. For photographs produced by printing two or more negatives as one unified image, use "composite photographs."
